Jodhpur was founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a Rajput ruler belonging to the Rathore clan. He shifted his capital from Mandore in Marwar to a more secure area that could be fortified, and he named it Jodhpur. The Mehrangarh Fort is testimony to the ruler’s futuristic thinking. The impregnable fort still bears the proud imprints of cannonball attacks, standing tall and defensive as a robust soldier protecting its city. Besides, the city is home to various other heritage palaces and forts, some of which are still inhabited by the royal descendants. The best resorts in Jodhpur are actually heritage properties, renovated to include modern hi-tech facilities without compromising their regal elegance.
